Summary: The bartender mixes and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests at the bar and guests in the dining room through the wait staff. The bartender is a service oriented sales person with knowledge of spirits, beer and wine, food and food pairings and who uses that knowledge to guide the guest to an enjoyable experience.
Job Duties:
- Greets guest within 30 seconds of guest approaching the bar
- Knows and follows all standard recipes for drinks, knows wine varietals, and beer styles and can explain their distinctions, properties and prices
- Pours consistent and proper measures of alcohol and wine pours in appropriate clean glassware
- Has complete knowledge of all menu items and their preparations. Serves all products adhering to company service standards
- Studies and stays current of all bar trends and recipes
- Participates in developing specialty cocktails and menus that fit the current season
- Follows alcohol awareness procedures to prevent over service to the guest
- Collect proper payment for all food and beverage served at the bar following proper accounting procedures
- Ensures that all beverages appear on the check by filling orders only after they have been ordered through the computer at the bar or through a server POS
- Efficiently transfers bar tabs to the correct server/table for guest convenience and follows up with communication to the server to avoid lost charges
- Answers the phone and assists guest when the manager or host is unavailable
- Takes to-go orders, fills orders when possible and collects payment
- Educates servers and other front of the house employees about all alcoholic beverages
- Cleans, sanitizes and maintains bar and all bar tools and equipment
- Maintains bar stock and rotation of all bar product
- Is conscious of waste. Cuts fruit and opens juices and other perishable product only as needed
- Sets-up and breaks down bar according to established guidelines with consideration of the following shift
- Communicates to supervisor all significant matters and assist in proper corrective action
- Maintains a respectful and cooperative working relationship with all other employees
- Maintains a polished, professional appearance
- Presents a positive and supportive image of the company
- Side duties include cleaning, stocking and maintaining all aspects of the bar as well as other duties specified by the manager
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Must have at least 3 years of bartending experience
- Outgoing, pleasant personality, and a desire to please guests
- Willingness to learn and share that learning with other staff members
- Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for 8 hours
- Ability to work in a team environment
